Catholic Pupil Profile

Former Pope Benedict XVI once asked 'What are the qualities you see in others that you would most like to have yourselves? What kind of person would you like to be?'

The answer at St Michael's RC Primary School is that we all want to be the best person we can possibly be, inspired and led by the gospel values Jesus taught us. To help us achieve this we follow the Catholic Pupil Profile; known in school as 'The Virtues'. These are influenced by St Ignatius who believed education to be a time for learning and a time for formation in learning to live a good life - living and learning a good life with Christ.

The virtues and how they help us to grow into the person we want to be are explained below.

Pupils at St Michael's RC Primary School are growing to be...

Grateful for their own their own gifts, for the gift of other people, and for the blessings of each day; and generous with their gifts, now and in the future.

Attentive to their experience and vocation, and discerning about the choices they make and the effects of those choices.

Compassionate towards others, near and far, especially the less fortunate; and loving by their just actions and forgiving words.

Faith-filled in their beliefs and hopeful for their future.

Eloquent and truthful in what they say of themselves, the relations between people, and the world.

Learned, finding God in all things; and wise in the ways they use their learning for the common good.

Curious about everything; and active in their engagement with the world, changing what they can for the better.

Each half term we learn about and apply two virtues. This academic year we are following the following virtues:

Autumn Term:

Curious and Active (Sept/Oct 2024)

Intentional and Prophetic (Nov/Dec 2024)

Spring Term:

Grateful and Generous (Jan/Feb 2025)

Attentive and Discerning (Feb/Mar/Apr 2025)

Summer Term:

Compassionate and Loving (Apr/May 2025)

Faith-filled and Hopeful (June/July 2025)

P4C (Philosophy for Children)

During this academic year we will be exploring the pupil profile virtues  through P4C.

P4C is a proven pedagogy that can help build communities, develop critical and creative thinking, oracy and wellbeing.
